Citizenship

Beginning November 2026, applicants to Hillsborough College will need to confirm and provide proof that they are either a U.S. citizen or lawfully present in the United States. A registration hold will be placed on student accounts until citizenship status can be verified.

This requirement is being implemented in response to changes to Florida State Board of Education Rule 6A-10.0240 and applies to all applicants, including dual enrollment students.

Submitting Documentation

During the Application Process:

You will be required to attest and provide documentation on the HC application. Once we have reviewed your submission, our team will contact you by email if any additional documentation is needed. Please allow 7-10 business days for review.

If further documentation is requested, please follow the steps below to submit it:

In-State Resident
If you also qualify for the Florida Resident Tuition Discount, upload your citizenship documents as part of that process.

Florida Resident Tuition Discount

Non-Florida Resident or Dual Enrollment Student:
Please use the steps below to submit your citizenship documentation: 

  1. Log in to MyHC and access Workday 
  2. Go to 'Academics Hub' under 'Student' in the menu
  3. Click 'Other Academic Tasks' then 'Submit Citizenship Documentation'
  4. Select 'Citizenship Documentation' as the request type 

Acceptable Documentation

Documents to prove Legal Status are as follows: 

United States Citizen:

· Certified U.S. birth certificate

· U.S. passport or passport card

· Certificate of Naturalization

· Certificate of Citizenship

· Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA)

Non-US Citizen:

· U.S. Visa

· Employment Authorization Document (EAD Card)

· Other Documentation Showing Legal Presence in the U.S.

Permanent Resident:

· Green Card

How do I know my citizenship has been verified?

We will evaluate citizenship documentation submitted on the HC Application within 7-10 business days. You will be notified by email if additional information is required. Once verified, the 'Citizenship Documentation Required' hold will be lifted. To check for holds, log in to Workday and navigate to your Academics Hub.
