This interdisciplinary panel will consider the impact of artistic projects such as 'Endangered-Refuge,' a site-specific installation and exhibition at Gallery221@HC Dale Mabry by collaborative artists Carol Mickett and Robert Stackhouse. This exhibition uses endangered whales as a vehicle to contemplate vulnerability, uncertainty and the search for refuge. As chaos, confusion and grief threaten human well-being, the artists invite the Hillsborough College community to find refuge within Gallery 221@HC Dale Mabry—to linger, breathe and be with the whales.
Mickett and Stackhouse are a collaborative artist team who live and work in Florida. Stackhouse received an M.A. in Painting from the University of Maryland in 1967, and Mickett earned a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Minnesota in 1988. Together, they have created monumental public sculptures, paintings, and prints exhibited throughout the United States and internationally, with work held in major museum collections including the Museum of Modern Art and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.
