PURPOSE
This procedure outlines the structure of the College Academic Affairs Committee and Discipline Groups.

Curriculum Discipline Groups

Composition
Full-time faculty members will be assigned to at least one Discipline Group related to their discipline or field. The composition of the Discipline Groups includes the following disciplines and fields:
- English, Journalism, Mass Communications, Reading, Literature, Speech, English for Academic Purposes (EAP), Radio & Television Broadcasting
- Art, Foreign Languages, Humanities, Music, Philosophy, Dance, Theater
- Mathematics, Statistics
- Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Agriculture, Physical Education, Ornamental Environmental Horticulture
- Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology, Education, Early Childhood Management
- History, Political Science
- Preparatory Math, Preparatory Reading, Preparatory Writing, Preparatory EAP
- Nursing
- Health Sciences, Counseling and Human Services, Interpreter Training Sign Language Interpretation

Meetings
The Discipline Groups will meet at least twice during each major academic term. The chairperson may call additional meetings as needed.

Elections
Each discipline will elect a member to serve as the chairperson of the discipline’s committee for one (1) academic year. The annual election will be held prior to the conclusion of the spring term, and the Discipline Group will notify the Chairperson of the Academic Affairs Committee and the Associate Vice President of Associate in Arts Program and Associate Vice President of Associate in Science Programs of the results of the election.

Composition
The Academic Affairs Committee will consist of faculty representing each of the Discipline Groups, an at-large member elected by each campus, and a faculty chair and vice chair. The AAC will also consist of non-voting administrative representation by the offices of academic affairs, information management and reporting, technical programs, and student services. Offices reporting to the Vice President for Academic Affairs will provide staff support. Academic and student services deans, associate vice presidents, the curriculum manager and college staff serve as resource staff and will be available to the AAC to advise it on items under its jurisdiction.

- Elections
- Chairperson
- The faculty will elect the chairperson of the Academic Affairs Committee in an election supervised by a subcommittee of Academic Affairs representatives. Candidates must have served on the Academic Affairs Committee within the three years prior to the election.
- The chairperson will serve a two-year term subject to reaffirmation vote for the second year by the current members of the AAC. A chair may run for re-election serving two consecutive two-year terms and run for election again after a one year’s break in office.
- If the faculty elects a chair that is an active representative to the AAC, the Discipline Group or campus will elect a new representative.
- Vice Chairperson
- The runner-up candidate in the election for chair will serve as vice chair for one academic year and will serve a second year if the chair is reaffirmed to a second year.
- Discipline Representatives
- Discipline Group representatives will serve a two-year term and will be elected by members of his or her Discipline Group as provided in the section below labeled "Selection of the Discipline Group Representatives to the AAC".
- Each Discipline Group will elect one full-time tenured faculty as a representative and one full-time tenured or non-tenured faculty as an alternate.
- Campus at-large representatives will serve a two-year term and will be elected by faculty members of their campus during the following years: Dale Mabry, Plant City, and SouthShore in odd numbered years, and Brandon and Ybor in even-numbered years.
- The AAC Chair will appoint current AAC members, two if possible, from each campus to conduct the election by email.
- Nominations will be held in the month of March with the election process completed prior to the April AAC meeting.

Charge and Mission
The Academic Affairs Committee’s (AAC) primary responsibility is to review and make recommendations to the college’s administration and the Board of Trustees relating to its educational programs and in accordance with the College’s mission. The committee will review educational programs and submit recommendations concerning the appropriate actions needed for the following academic matters:
- New programs,
- New courses,
- Elimination of program(s) or placement of program(s) on moratorium,
- Deletion of courses,
- Modification of courses,
- Modification of programs,
- Award of college credit,
- Other substantive educational changes,
- Policies on grading and attendance,
- Curriculum review,
- Adding or modifying course lab fees, and
- Discussing and making recommendations regarding academic issues that are brought to the AAC.
